Lecture: Three hours of lecture/discussion per week.

An introduction to the nature of human language and its internal structure. This course helps students develop the analytical tools of descriptive linguistics and apply them to a wide variety of linguistic data in order to understand the basic principles underlying the organization and use of language as a biological and social phenomenon.
