NUR 310 Basic Nurse Assisting Certificate

This program satisfies the Illinois Department of Public Health requirements for employment in long-term health care facilities, plus home health and acute care facilities. Information regarding admission may be obtained by contacting the Basic Nurse Assisting (BNA) Coordinator. All students successfully completing the course must take and pass the “hands-on” skills and written, state approved, competency evaluation. With successful passing, the student’s name is placed on the nurse assistant state registry for employment. Illinois statute requires all new nurse aides to have a criminal fingerprint background check before their names can be added to the nurse aide registry. This check is completed prior to or during the course enrollment. All entering students are required to have a drug test and required immunizations for clinical. Further information is available through the Basic Nurse Assisting (BNA) Coordinator.
Admission:
- Students are required to complete one of the following: Accuplacer Reading score of 233 or ENG 098 or ENG 089 with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Must have a Social Security card.
- Students must apply for graduation in the Student Services Office by the deadline listed in the applicable semester’s schedule booklet. No graduation fee is required.
